133 – Empowering Women Through Self-Care with Christy Primmer

Today on the Scale Your Small Business Podcast, Jillian is sitting down with Christy Primmer, a world-renowned thought leader on self-care and financial empowerment for women. She spent two decades facilitating trauma counseling, and recently retired from The College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers and Health Canada. Now she’s transitioned into the speaking and coaching industry. As a personal development author, Christy is obsessed with helping women create their epic life.

Christy’s background is in counseling, and after 23 years of helping men, women, and youth improve their self-confidence and self-esteem, she recognized that while rewarding, the line of work was exceptionally draining. However, at its core, trauma counseling is rooted in the mentorship of a therapeutic relationship. And so that mentorship translated to successful coaching naturally.

In her work with women, Christy believes the biggest thing holding women back when it comes to finances is confidence. It’s shaped by our upbringing, but every day is a journey of growth and empowerment.

The first place to start building that confidence is by making the decision that you want to live differently. Once you make that decision, take action. Christy sees women holding off on big leaps of faith and investments, but it’s okay to start small. Micro-doses of change are consistent and sustainable and will get you to the same goal.

Stop negotiating your boundaries. When you stop breaking promises to yourself, Christy says, you’ll see massive improvements in your financial and personal growth.

As the world transitions back into in-person conferences and events, Christy’s number one tip when getting into the scene is to reach out beforehand. DM people on Instagram prior to the event and let them know you’re going and would love to meet them. That way, the ‘meet you there’ feeling is mutual, and the ice is already broken.

Christy’s biggest piece of advice is to invest in your mindset. Allow yourself to understand your money, your process, and your trajectory. Having a mentor can help you increase that rate of growth and get you over challenges with ease.
